CRCHI Two Tunnel Boring Machines Assist in South Korea Power Infrastructure Projects
Dec 09, 2025
Recently, two small-diameter slurry balance shield machines independently developed by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. have been successfully completed and are about to be shipped to South Korea for the construction of the Gyeonggi-do Cable Tunnel project.
The Gyeonggi Cable Tunnel Project aims to meet the growing power supply demands in the Seoul metropolitan area. With its outstanding product performance and customized capabilities, CRCHI successfully secured a contract for the supply of six sets of equipment, becoming the equipment supplier with the highest number of bids for this project. This achievement fully demonstrates the international market's high recognition of CRCHI's technical expertise and project adaptability.
It is reported that the project involves complex geological conditions, primarily traversing high-strength hard rock formations, with localized sections requiring passage through fault zones and weathered rock areas. The project presents multiple engineering challenges, including long excavation distances, high rock strength, substantial construction water pressure, and tight turning radii. In response to the project's conditions, the technical team at CRCHI leveraged their professional expertise to conduct targeted optimizations on the equipment. Building upon extensive experience from previous projects in the Korean region, these improvements enhanced the equipment's excavation efficiency and adaptability in complex strata, fully meeting the project's stringent requirements for rapid construction and high reliability.
The successful offline of these two pieces of equipment not only marks China Railway Construction Heavy Industry's further deepening presence in the South Korean market but also lays a solid foundation for subsequent equipment deliveries and the overall advancement of projects. In the future, China Railway Construction Heavy Industry will contribute more Chinese wisdom and solutions to global infrastructure development.
